Beanie Babies FAQ

What colors are the new face and old face bears? Both the old face bears and new face bears released by Ty had the same six colors: teal, violet, cranberry, magenta, jade and brown. The old face bears were introduced in 1994 and retired the next year. The new face bears were birthed and retired in the same year, 1995.

How do I tell the difference between a new face and old face bear? One difference is the shape of the face. the old face beanie baby bears have a triangular looking black nose and their faces are more elongated where the new face beanie baby bears have faces that are more rounded and their little noses are also round, not triangular. One of the easiest ways to tell one from the other is to look at the eyes. The old-faced bear will have eyes inside the V-Seam where a new-faced bear will have their eyes stiched outside the V-Seam.

Both the old faced and new faced beanie baby bears are highly collectible with old faced brown being most expensive and new faced brown being least.

Do you collect the new beanies? If you are into collecting beanies as soon as they are released, I found a site that seems to keep way on top of that. For example, you can sign up for emails announcing the newest releases and go order. I'll be posting some of his info here with a link to the site so you can go there and grab the newest beanie babies if that's what you are into. You can also find good information on beanies and he also sponsors a program to send beanie babies to our troups in Iraq. Of course, he has older beanies too. The site is called Barries Beanies and here's the latest release he just sent me:

beanie babies from tySet of Beanies from McDonalds, all new in package except for last one This is a set of the promotional beanies given away by McDonalds. All five bears are from 2004 promotions at McDonalds. Included in this set, from left to right: Burger the Bear (color Magenta), Fries the Bear (color Lime Green), Birdie the Bear (my favorite, dashing in a magenta suit with yello arms, head and boots and a white sash), Hamburglar the bear (in white and black prison strips with a red tie that has hamburgers on it) and finally, out of his wrapper, is the Happy Meal 25th Bear. This set of Beanie Baby Collectibles is only $10 plus shipping.

beanie babiesBeanie Babies of Sesame Street Characters: These two are from 1999 Kelloggs promotions. Set of two new in package. They are Big Bird, birthday March 20, and Snuffleupagus, birthday August 10. Just $4 for both plus shipping.

beanie babies from tyMy Beanie Babies These are the larger beanies, not teenie beanies, for those unfamiliar with beanie babies. As far as I've been able to determine, from consulting my Beanie Babies catalog and the internet, these are the real thing. However, I can't swear to it so ask for bigger pictures if interested (email neva.howell at gmail.com). Are these mint? I am not a Beanie Bag collector so I am not sure what constitutes "mint" so I've listed all beanie babies as excellent or very good. As for the tush tags most of them look very slightly sat upon and/or bruised but are perfectly readable. I'm also pricing these beanie babies right. Each one is only $3 plus shipping. I figure any one of them is at least worth that and most are worth more.

TOP ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT
Demure the Poodle, born July 11, 2003 Condition: Excellent body, fringe on legs and head unmatted and clean but a little mussed. I don't know if Demure is supposed to have mussed looking fringe or not. Heart tag has one very slight bend near bottom left.

Fortune, born December 6, 1997 Condition: Excellent. Heart tag also excellent.

Kissme, the bear, born February 7, 2001 (Kissme is one of my personal favorites. Bear and neck ribbon both in excellent shape. Heart tag in excellent shape but has the name Mila written in ink.

Hope, the praying bear, born March 23, 1998 Hope is in excellent shape. Tag in very good shape, a little frayed where the plastic tag goes thru the hole, not bad. Tush tag very good.

BOTTOM ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT
Jabber, the Parrot, born October 10, 1997 Condition: Excellent, body and heart tag.

Tangles, the Cat, born January 29, 2003 Condition: I think she's excellent but because her fur is more fluffy-feeling and soft, it looks a little different so I am going to say very good to be safe. Her whiskers are slightly frayed at the ends, not bad. Heart tag excellent.

Rover, the Dog, born May 30, 1996 Condition: Excellent to very good. I say that because there is one tiny, black speck of something on his nose and I'm not sure whether it will come off. Probably but, again, not a collector so I don't know how to clean them. Heart tag has a very slight bend near right-bottom corner.

LYING IN FRONT
Stinger, the Scorpion, born September 29, 1997 Stinger is in excellent shape and so is the heart tag.

Blizzard the Tiger, born December 12, 1996 Blizzard is in excellent shape and so is the heart tag. This is another beanie baby with 2-colored eyes. Blizzard has huge black pupils outlined in blue.
Is it a real beanie baby? I should have know it was too good to be true. There they were, dozens of teenie beanies, just thrown in a toy box at a local thrift store and at amazingly reasonable prices. I had seen beanie babies around for years but never, til that day, had an interest in collecting them. I bought the whole lot and, with excitement, began researching my finds. Oh, goodness. What a maze of qualifications and tush tags and heart tags and things to look for, to determine authenticity. On some of mine, I've still not got a clue if they are real or not. Maybe, I never will. More on this later but first.... here's some Attic Treasures and a Teenie Beanies Deal!

Beanie Babie Mystery: One thing that made some of my teenie beanies interesting is the shorter tush tag, the date of 1993 and the conflicting information about them being made by Simon Marketing for McDonalds....conflicting because McDonalds did not begin offering teenie beanies in their Happy Meals til around 1997.

I was sure all my Simon Marketing teenie beanies must be fakes and was ready to hand them over to the nieces and nephews, to play with and utlimately destroy. Then, I found one website somewhere that showed these odd tags as authentic because on the other side, they were marked with the date of the McDonalds issue. In other words, there seem to be a group of teenie beanies that are legitimate which all have 1993 dates on the front of the shorter tush tag and a copyright date which fits the years McDonalds has been offering teenie beanies in the Happy Meal packages.

The problem with my 1993 short tag teenies is that there is no copyright date on the back. Are they fakes? If so, why? These are probably the least valuable of the collectibles, as far as I can tell. If anyone has any info on this phenomenon, I'd love to know more.

I did read that McDonalds and Simon Marketing were once in counter-suits with one another over another marketing matter. I don't know how that matter was resolved or if suits are still in motion by either party. Cyrk is the new name of the company but it was unclear in all that I could find online whether this Cyrk actually replaces the division of Simon Worldwide that handled beanie babies or not.

Anyway, I did end up with a few authentic beanies though none of the extravagantly valuable ones. I'll be posting pictures soon of Rover, Pinchers, Tangles, Blizzard, Fortune, Hagitha and more so check back if you have an interest or email me at neva.howell at gmail.com if you are looking for a particular beanie and I'll see if I can help.
