Look to right for....Vintage Strawberry Shortcake Dolls
How I clean my Strawberry Shortcake Dolls but Warning! You have to take your own risk in cleaning old dolls. The fact that these things have worked for me may not mean they will work on every doll. Start with an inconspicuous area or try it on a doll that is already damaged in some other way.

I went thru a lot of trial and error, trying to figure out the best way to clean the soft vinyl dolls in the Strawberry Shortcake line. I was afraid I might damage the painted on eyes, mouth, freckles and blush by using a regular cleaner so I tried several things before settling on a particular way. First, I tried a natural soap I use called neutralizer. It didn't harm the vinyl but it also didn't take away the old dust and dirt that is often on the faces of old dolls. Then, I tried baby wipes but they didn't work well either.

Finally, I found a product at the dollar store that works better than anything else. It's called Orange Goop Hand Cleaner. I tried it on my Huckleberry Pie doll because the hat was molded and I figured that would affect the price a bit anyway. When I wiped it off about 10 minutes later, the face was just simply shining. The doll looks like new. Unfortunately, it didn't work that well on my Strawberry Shortcake first edition flat hand doll and that may be due to it being older and, perhaps, a different type of vinyl. It did take some of the staining off her too, but not all.

Stopping VDS damage I have several dolls with VDS damage and I've read that it can't be cured but I beg to differ. There is no way I've found that will undo the damage once it's done but bathing the dolls in colloidal silver (naturally antifungal) should stop it from getting worse. I have no proof of that but I believe it, based on what I know about silver as a wellness counselor.

I guess you could call me an SSC rescuer, of a sorts. I fall in love with every Strawberry Shortcake doll I see. In fact, when I started collecting these dolls and accessories and finding new, loving homes for them, it was hard to actually list any of them because I fell in love with each one and wanted to keep it for myself. However, my house is not that big! So.....if you are looking for vintage strawberry shortcake dolls, strawberry shortcake furniture or playsets, you have come to the right place. I also have a Berry Happy Home, which I simply adore but will sell.

I am not really swift with a digital camera yet so getting all the pictures up may take a while. If you are looking for something you don't see, let me know and I'll prioritize getting that one posted quickly.

Literally speaking, the term vintage usually refers to products made in 1968 or earlier. However, with some collectibles like Strawberry Shortcake dolls, the vintage (or first edition, oldest versions) started in 1979.

Please note: All dolls listed are gently played with and need some gentle clean up. Please request the larger pictures available and take careful note of any imperfections I've listed. I strive to be as accurate about them as possible but if you read something you are not sure of, email and ask me and I'll be more specific about any damage. No noticable VDS unless noted. All dolls listed are from 1979 unless otherwise noted. None of the hats are attached. I think it's kinda hard to find em that way unless they are mint in box.

Pieman and Sour Grapes with Pets These are probably my least favorite SSC collectibles. They're just not cute, are they? In fact, the pieman looks downright dastardly. Yet this duo is highly collectible.

My pieman has a bit of VDS damage on the backs of his arms and palms of hands but otherwise, he's in good, dastardly shape. Sour Grapes is in good shape with no VDS that I can see. However, her dress is frayed in the front. The snake looks good except a little dirty in the crevices and it looks like a pet may have gotten hold of his tail. It's still in tact but I can see what appear to be the beginnings of a chew toy. It isn't bad but it is visible. The bird looks fairly good though he has a scuffy on his nose. The costumes are in good shape expect for the fraying at top of Sour Grape's dress as mentioned before.

Pieman wears a light purple chef hat with blue and dark purple checks and this hat is glued on. His handle-bar mustache is also purple. He wears a blue shirt that snaps in the back and a white apron with two ties, one around the neck and the other around the waist. He does not come with pants, or rather his legs are painted purple to represent pants, I suppose. His markings include a copyright with the words American Greeting Corp 1981 Hong Kong on the back of his head plus the words Made in Hong Kong across his back.

Sour Grapes wears painted on green gloves and a dress of light purple with light blue chiffon-looking extensions on both sides. The dress has grapes on it, of course. Her hair is deep purple with a swath of light blue. Her markings are on the back of the head and read American Greeting Corp 1982.

Dregs the snake is simply marked AGC and 1982 HK. I could find no markings on the bird at all. However, I know it is a real SSC collectibles because the lady who sold it had bought the SSC stuff for her daughter long ago and still had a lot of the original box covers. $12.00 gets them both, plus shipping.

Plum Pudding Party Pleaser, Complete with Owl - This lovely is in very good shape. Her hat is purple with pink dots and white trim, and a green and white bow. It's in very good shape. So is the dress, which has purple/pink sleeves in same pattern as hat. Middle of dress has diagonal stripes and she wears blue shoes. The owl is in good shape too but missing a little paint over the top of his accordion. Plum Pudding is one of the more expensive SSC collectibles. She normally sells for between $150 and $185 and sometimes, that's without the owl or without it being a party pleaser plum pudding! Get Plum Pudding Party Pleaser and Owl for your Strawberry Shortcake Collection at a discount today! Please note this sale price will not last forever. I reserve the right to raise the price at any time so if you have an interest, be sure to let me know. Only $100.00 plus shipping and handling!

Strawberry Shortcake Herself, flat hand doll - This is a first edition flat hand Strawberry Shortcake doll. She is in good shape except for a barely noticiable bit of dirtiness or staining on chin (middle looks good, around eyes, freckles, mouth, etc.). After cleaning her with orange Goop, the staining is barely noticable but I've decided to keep her at the reduced price of less than half price of what she normally would go for, if sold complete in excellent condition. Costume a bit dingy but all colors still good (red still looks red, green still looks green, etc), and top of hat a little bit stained. She comes complete with her shoes. Her blush and freckles are still clearly visible and eyes look great. Her markings on the back of her head read American Greeting Corp 1979 and she has Made in Hong Kong on her back. Strawberry Shortcake Herself flat hand doll sells for around $50. My SSC Herself can be yours for just $20.00 plus shipping.

Strawberry Shorkcake Herself wears a cute white and red dress. The sleeves have a little white overlay and darker red dots on the red sleeves and trim. The middle of the dress is white wit a row of green diamonds with strawberries in the middle and a row of red x's below that. The dress ties in back with a green ribbon. Her hat is the quintessential strawberry shortcake hat. It is pink with red strawberrys and a bigger red strawberry sewn in the front center part of the cap. My SSC Herself hat is in good shape except it is a little stained on the very top. She wears brown shoes with bows. Both shoes are in tact with no breakage but the right shoe has scuffies on the bows. Her green and white tights are in good shape.

Should you buy mint in box? If you are buying for your children to enjoy, or for a personal collection that you want to display on shelves or as part of the Berry Happy Home, you're really wasting money to buy mint in box. The moment the doll is taken out of the box and played with or displayed for long enough to collect dust, light damage, etc., the value will go down. Mint in box collectibles will always cost more than those out of box but an avid collector loves to get the whole package.

Orange Blossom, complete, no pet - She is just adorable and is a 2nd edition, curved hand collectible doll from the Strawberry Shortcake collection. Costume and shoes in good shape. Although freckles, eyes and mouth color are still visible, the mouth color seems a little pale to me. I haven't seen a mint Orange Blossom so I'm not sure how bright it would be but I would say it might be a little faded but still visible. I was asking $18 for her but since I'm not sure about the intensity of the paint around her mouth, I've reduced the cost to $12 plus shipping.

Looking for the newer Strawberry Shortcake Dolls? amazon.com has a good selection:

Butter Cookie and Jelly Bear, complete - Butter Cookie came out in 1981 and, unlike most the other SSC dolls, she did not come with booties or shoes. Her little outfit is slightly dingy, her hat has one little black spot on it and Jelly Bear has a few little scrapes on his white hair and a little stain on one foot. Although you can't see it in the picture, due to the way her hat is turned, the little white bow on the hat is still there and still tied nicely. Cost for this SSC collectible doll and pet is $15 plus shipping.

Cafe Ole, complete, with pet Cafe Ole comes wearing a pink hat with white trim and pink ricrac and a sort of orange looking bow. The little outfit is a sort of brightly colored poncho and a shirt, all one piece. The hat and outfit are a bit dingy but colors still good. Her eyes look great, blush still visible and little freckles all look good. Mouth looks good. Burrito still has all his paint except for one very small scruff at top of his mane but is a little dirty as well, in the crevices. Not bad at all. Cafe Ole and Burrito are available for $16 plus shipping. Will include red strawberry shortcake comb with Cafe Ole, free!

Apricot and Hopsalot, reduced! Apricot and Hopsalot, the bunny. Hopsalot is in good shpae except for a teeny bit of paint missing from his nose. Apricot has perfect eyes, mouth and freckles, hair in good shape too though missing the little blue ribbon. Her outfit is in good shape and comes with the hard-to-find blue booties. Her hat is a little dirty but, again, I didn't want to risk damaging it. I'll leave that gentle clean up to those who know about cleaning doll clothes. Sadly, Apricot has noticable VDS on legs and feet but none on the face, and one leg has cracked places though still in tact and limbs fold and work just fine. Does VDS matter? For the serious collector, who wants one day to sell their collection or pass it on to their children, yes. To the person who collects Strawberry Shortcake dolls because they love them, maybe not. You can't see the VDS with her costume on and as long as you don't put her in direct contact with a clean doll, I don't think the VDS can spread. However, because the VDS is noticable, I'm reducing Apricot to $6.00. Hopsalot, the booties, her hat and her costume alone are worth that.

Lime Chiffon with Parfait Parrot, complete Lime is in very good shape, Her pale green dress sports white flowers with pink irises around the trim. The dress is a little freyed on one sleeve and the cap has one small spot of dirt on it. The little green and white tights are fine. The shoes are a little dirty as well, but not bad. Parfait Parrot is in excellent shape. Slight bit of dirt on inside of beak but no paint loss that I can notice. $15.00 plus shipping.

BERRY HAPPY HOME

berry happy homeStrawberry Shortcake Berry Happy Home - This Happy Home, as far as I can tell, is complete except for 1/2 of the porch railing and 1 green plant that goes on the side. The little mail box opens and closes, the front porch swing works, and even most of the little glued-on rock stickers look good. A few are frayed or loose and one is missing but overall, this is a wonderful looking old SSC collectible. Note also that one hook to put the pool side part on is broken but that it still stays together just fine. I didn't even know it was broken until I tried to take the house apart for a prospective buyer. These houses were made to last, they're put together tightly, so I'd rather ship as is than risk breaking any more of the hooks that hold it together but will disassemble if needed. The estimated value for this collectible is around $200.00 but I have just reduced my Berry Happy Home to only $100 plus shipping.

Important note on shipping: I have tried several times to try and take this house apart and it's just not something I can do. It's put together too well and I'm afraid I'll break something so I have to sell it altogether. It weighs about 23 pounds and is triple oversize so shipping is NOT cheap. I'd much prefer to find someone close enough to pick it up so if you live near northeast Alabama, let me know cause that's a better option all around. Estimated shipping is around $100 with insurance, which is the only way I would do it. Too valuable and fragile to ship uninsured.

Dolls I don't have listed yet..... Lem and Ada, Crepe Suzette, Mint Tulip, Huckleberry Pie, SSC Baby Blow Kiss with bottle, Raspberry Tart, Almond Tea and more. I have more SSC collectibles to add in future too.... (a trolley, a complete garden house, snail cart, busy bug, carry case and more). Also have several Strawberry Shortcake outfits. Email me if you are looking for a specific Strawberry Shortcake Collectible. My email address is neva.howell at gmail.com

Tips on buying collectibles online: In a lot of ways, shopping online is so much easier than scouring yard sales and thrift stores for your goodies but the convenience of online shopping can come with a price. It is harder to determine the actual quality of items, just looking at a picture so make sure your merchant has provided a good one. Also, don't buy from a site where you have no way to ask the merchant questions. If they won't give you a contact number or email, just don't do business with them period.

Look for VDS damage on dolls. Ask about it. Some of mine have some VDS but I always list that with the listing. Some merchants may not even know what VDS is. It is a fungus that likes to attack the vinyl that strawberry shortcake dolls are made out of and cause little white spots on the skin. I nearly cried when I saw that one of my little babies had VDS. One thing to remember though is that if the VDS damage is only on legs and arms, and not on face, the costume may had most of that so it depends on why you are collecting the dolls, as to whether it's worth getting one with VDS damage at a bargain. If you just love the dolls and want one for your collection, and the VDS doesn't show, it may be fine for you to buy one with VDS damage.
